Tomahawk Floating Home Moorage with Slip Ownership

Floating Home Portland

“When you are lucky enough to live on the river, you are lucky enough!” Tomahawk Floating Home Moorage is located on the East end of Hayden Island. This floating home moorage has  71 homes and is owned and managed by the residents. The slips here are called slip ownership, which means that the purchase price for the home includes partial ownership of the floating home moorage. The monthly HOA fee is a low $280 a month (kept low by slip ownership)  and includes public water, public sewer, trash service, gated community & dock management and maintenance.

Tomahawk floating home community is a gated moorage. The east end of the moorage consists of finger walks with homes on both sides of each walk facing each other across an expanse of water. The west end consists of a long dock with homes facing south and north to the riparian edge. The residents of this  moorage enjoy slip ownership which means they  own the docks and the mud beneath the floating homes out to the center of the North Portland Harbor which is part of the Columbia River. Slips vary in size but the monthly fee is the same for all homes. Tomahawk Moorage is pet friendly and residents are expected to be good pet owners by leashing their pets and picking up after them.

When buying a floating home how do you know what to look for, or ask questions about? What is a dock on witch a floating home is built suppose to look like? Do you have covered parking spaces? How close is the parking lot to let’s say osmb#fho657 close or far? Is there assistance for handie capped veterans on the fingers? Could a veteran use a small bike on the fingers for assistance to get home? Are the fingers covered? Very interested please respond as soon as possible. Thank you

I am so sorry that I missed replying to your question when you wrote it! I always suggest that people look at the moorage; is this the neighborhood your want to live in? Then, can you afford to live there? The docks should be in good condition and repair. Moorages offer different amenities; some offer covered parking, some gated parking but not covered, it just depends on the moorage. Living in a floating home requires a nimble person who can manage the on and off ramps to the docks. I always tell people, you have to be ‘through the gate’ on getting from your car to your house in all kinds of weather or floating home lifestyles are not for you’. I hope this helps!
