Bamboo for Fabulous Sushi

Portland Oregon has terrific restaurants! There is not enough time or money to experience them all. But Steve and I had a craving for fresh fish, and took ourselves to one of the restaurant rows of Portland on NE 28th Street spreading out both sides of Burnside. You can eat almost any kind of cuisine here from Esperanza’s Tex Mex to Holden’s Bar food to Ken’s Artisan Pizza to Navarro’s tapas to our stop, Bamboo. Wow! Bamboo had the best California roll I have ever eaten, made with layers of flavors that exploded in our mouths as the roll came apart. The atmosphere is elegant and smoky without any smoke of course. After all, this is Portland Oregon! The sushi bar was immaculate and the sushi makers were fast, experienced and fun to watch….and also very attentive to the sushi bar customers. Every course we selected was perfect. The flavors were unusual and yummy. Bamboo specializes in organic products and fish that is sustainable and not endangered. They supply interesting reading material about different kinds of endangered fish species too. The crowd was young and cool. We waiting on the sidewalk for about 30 minutes sipping excellent cocktails chosen from a list of exotic house made mixers. This was a great place to people watch the locals strolling by, stopping to visit friends and moving along to other establishments. Try it! It is worth it and a fun place to experience.
